It's been a joy to receive your 'tough issues' this summer that you'd
like to hear addressed in sermons; I wish I could get inside your
heads to see what issues are swirling there (or maybe that would be too
frightening, huh?!), but I appreciate your sharing some of those with
me. What I've found is that if it's an issue for you, it's most
likely an issue for many more people who just aren't speaking of it
aloud.
Our lives get so hectic that we often don't take the time to address the
struggles we have, but instead, just try to plow through them and get to
the other side as quickly as possible. It's like trying to get the
answer to a math problem without learning the processes and how to get
to that answer. If we never take the time to work through the
issues--even if there is no answer--we'll find ourselves being tripped
up by them over and over again.
So far in this sermon series, we've covered forgiving those who do the
unforgivable; loving those who have hurt us or our loved ones deeply;
respect of other cultures; the fate of those who practice faiths other
than Christianity; and the fear of death. Some of the subject yet
to come are: dealing with loss--does God care about our various
experiences of loss; speaking the truth--is that always a good thing to
do; lives of clutter--emotional and physical; worry (a subject that
bears repeating several times a year); and the cost of past and present
sin.
Do you have an issue with which you struggle? Is there something
that you continue to sweep under the rug rather than dealing with it
directly? Is God working with you on a particular area of your
life while you're trying to avoid the issue altogether?
Isn't it time to just give up the hiding and seek God's direction?
I'd be glad to help you wrestle with that area if that would be helpful.
I'd also be happy to address those areas in upcoming sermons. In
the midst of our daily living, let's quit sweeping things under the rug
and trust God to teach us how to deal with the complexities of life.
Life isn't always pretty, but.....God is ALWAYS on the throne with arms
outstretched to love and strengthen us.
In
Christ,
Debbie
